Reading support

Please continue to read with your child everyday at home and note down any information in their reading record. The more opportunity children have to read the more they will progress in all their learning. Please keep reading books and reading records in school bags at all times so comments can be added when children are read with in school.

Make sure you or your child notes down reading our Little Wandle books and any extra books you read. We want to see what you've been reading!

Please ensure your child always has a reading book and a their reading record so it can be stamped by an adult.

Little Wandle books are changed on Thursdays. If you are unable to find a book let me know as soon as possible and we will contact you about ordering a replacement.

Children have the opportunity to change their library books in the mornings.

Comprehension

As well as reading fluently children are also expected to understand and answer questions based on what they have read. Attached you can see some suggested question prompts to use at home when you are reading. In school we use VIPERS. VIPERS stands for, vocabulary, inference, predict, explain, retrieve, sequence or summarise. These are all skills we practise within school but it would be great if you could practise at home too!
