Kingfisher Class
Hello everyone and welcome back! I hope everyone has had a lovely summer and is excited for a new year in Kingfisher class. I am looking forward to seeing some returning faces and welcoming our new members to the class!
We've got a really exciting Autumn term ahead and I am looking forward to getting started!
Remember to check the Home learning folder for this terms home learning projects. We will do our presentations in the final two weeks of term so I am excited to see what everyone chooses! There is also useful advice and resources for extra practice you can do at home to help support your child's learning.
Our topics for this year
In English we are starting out by doing a review of our letter formation and non negotiables to get us ready for some excellent writing the rest of this year. After that, we will be writing diary entries based on our History unit for this term (see below). To finish up, we will together to develop our own class poem.
In Maths we will begin with solidifying our place value to 100 before moving onto doing addition and subtraction within 100. We will also be looking at reasoning problems and applying the maths we know to solve them.
In Science we are looking at amazing scientists this term! We will study the works of a number of brilliant men and women and how they have helped us understand our world through discoveries such as gravity, wind power, how sound travels, testing reflexes, and how germs spread. To ensure they didn't make any mistakes we will do a few experiments of our own to check their work.
In History we are studying the Great Fire of London and looking at how primary sources help us understand the events of the past.
In RWE we are continuing our research into the story of Genesis from last year by looking at how the story affects some Christians' view of the world and how they might interact with it.
In Art we will be developing our skills with watercolour paints and producing our own amazing paintings based on our History unit. We will also be looking at and commenting on the work of Artists Paul Klee and Emma Burleigh.
In Music we are using our voices and instruments to create sound patterns and produce our own piece of music. We will also be learning to discuss different pieces of music and incorporate outside ideas into our own work.
In Computing we will be practicing our mouse and trackpad skills to improve our use of computers. Even though touch screens are becoming more common its an important skill to learn!
In PE we will be developing teamworking skills and applying them to games and problems. We will also be practicing our throwing, rolling, and stopping techniques with balls and applying those skills to competitive games.
See the Kingfisher Web boxes for a more concise summary.
This term our PE days will be on Monday and Tuesday.
On these days children should come into school wearing their PE kits. As a reminder, this should be a white t-shirt, black or navy shorts/joggers (weather dependent), and their school sweatshirt or fleece. Long hair should be tied back, and earrings should be covered or removed. Please do not send your child to school in non-school uniform items on PE days, such as hoodies or other sportswear from clubs.
On the first Wednesday of each month, with the odd exception, we would like to invite parents, carers or any family member dropping off a Kingfisher Class child to come into class before registration and sit alongside them for a few minutes. 'Welcome Wednesday' is an opportunity to share in the children's work, read with them, or simply discuss the current learning summarised on our classroom working walls. We hope this will become a precious and rewarding 10 minutes for the whole school community to get together regularly in class. We hope to see you there!
Please do look at the General Information page where you will find a summary of this half term's learning, an example timetable and lots of other useful information.
