  News from the Gardening Club

   

  The children have started on our Spring jobs in the school garden and it is looking lovely.

   

  It all started with a spruce up day in early March, when school staff, children and parents all come together and tidied, painted, cleaned and weeded. The grounds are now spick and span and we can get on with more planting and sowing of seeds. We will be planting as many vegetables as we can – we already have potatoes and lettuces growing.

   

  One of our projects is to create a herb garden in the raised bed kindly donated by the Barton Gardeners and we have planted several herbs already. The children of Robin Class enjoyed picking the leaves and using them in the turnip soup they made! We have supplemented the herbs with colourful Spring flowers and the bed is looking lovely.

   

  Another project this year has been the new pond in the wildlife area - thanks to Kenny from the Countryside Restoration Trust who dug and planted a new pond designed to encourage wildlife, particularly frogs and insects. We sowed wildflower seeds around the edges and these are growing well.

   

  Mrs Greenfield has been helping us and continues to give us plants and come up with ideas for us, and we are very grateful for all her help.
