Kingfisher Class
Hello everyone and welcome to the start of our summer term (regardless of what the weather might suggest). I hope everyone is excited for the return to Kingfisher Class for the final section of the year!
Our PE days are remaining Tuesdays and Fridays as will be the case the rest of this term.
As always remember to check the Home Learning page for this term's home learning projects and invitations, both are uploaded there. We will do our presentations in the final two weeks of the term. We had a lot of really fantastic presentations at the end of the half term so I am excited to see what everyone chooses this one! There is also useful advice and resources for extra practice you can do at home to help support your child's learning.
Our topics for this term
In Maths we will be continuing our work with measurement and temperature from last term and continue into working with mass, length, and height. After that we will be moving onto our fractions unit and will continue with that until the end of term.
In English we will be writing a narrative story based on the book Lila and the Secret of Rain using our previous practice with connecting words, adjectives, and adverbs. We will also be looking to begin using our joined-up writing in our work this term. At the end of the term we will be practising some didactic poetry and writing a recount.
Science this term will be focused recognising the properties of different materials and how we can use the knowledge to choose the right material for our job of building a house.
This term our RWE will be looking at understanding why Jewish families say so many prayers and blessings, especially on Shabbat. We will also examine many of the traditions and rituals which are followed on Shabbat.
History will be studying the reigns of Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria and how life in Britain changed during their rules. We will also be researching important events in the lives of the two queens.
In Art we will be creating sketches and drawings of birds and using that art to help create 3D models and sculptures.
Computing will be using our knowledge of algorithms to create programs and code on the chromebooks in school.
Our Music will be using the skills of pitch, dynamics, and tempo we have developed this year to create a performance using our voices and musical instruments.
PE will focus on the techniques of jumping and how this can be used in sports and games. We will also look at how agility, balance, and coordination are important in exercise and sports.
This term our PE days will be on Tuesday and Friday.
On these days children should come into school wearing their PE kits. As a reminder, this should be a white t-shirt, black or navy shorts/joggers (weather dependent), and their school sweatshirt or fleece. Long hair should be tied back, and earrings should be covered or removed. Please do not send your child to school in non-school uniform items on PE days, such as hoodies or other sportswear from clubs.
On the first Wednesday of each month, with the odd exception, we would like to invite parents, carers or any family member dropping off a Kingfisher Class child to come into class before registration and sit alongside them for a few minutes. 'Welcome Wednesday' is an opportunity to share in the children's work, read with them, or simply discuss the current learning summarised on our classroom working walls. We hope this will become a precious and rewarding 10 minutes for the whole school community to get together regularly in class. We hope to see you there!
Please do look at the General Information page where you will find a summary of this half term's learning, an example timetable and lots of other useful information.
