The Governing Body

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.

The Governing Body has overall responsibility for the efficient running of the School including the appointment of staff, managing the budget and overseeing the curriculum. The full Governing Body meets once every half term, and additional meetings are called as necessary. There is a sub-committee for Resources which focuses on finance, premises and staffing.

Mrs. Caroline Parsons - Co-opted Governor and Co-Chair

Caroline was initially elected as a Parent Governor in 2019 and appointed as Chair of the Governing Body on 15.09.21 and as Co-opted Governor on 14.09.22. Caroline has a background in law and is a member of both the Resources and the Standards Committee. She has a daughter who has just moved up to Comberton Village College and an older son who was previously at Barton School. Caroline is Link Governor for safeguarding and child protection, training, History and Geography.

Mrs. Louise Bowes - Foundation Governor 

Louise was appointed as a Foundation Governor by Ely Diocese on 23.11.22. As a member of staff, Louise had to relinquish her position of Vice-Chair, but continues to be an active member of the governing body and serves on the Resources Committee. Louise has two daughters in Y1 and Y3, and two older children. Louise brings has a range of skills from working with children with additional needs, and a love of literature from her post of Librarian at another local school. Louise is Link Governor for PSHE, RWE, Collective Worship and Music.

Mrs. Charlie Lankester - Foundation Governor

Charlie was appointed as Foundation Governor by the Diocese on 05.12.24. Charlie works in obstetrics and gynaecology and has an interest in special needs provision. Charlie has a daughter in Y5 , another older daughter who has just moved up to Comberton Village College and an older son who was also previously at Barton. Charlie is Link Governor for Science.

Mrs. Sarah Penrose - Foundation Governor

Sarah was appointed Foundation Governor by Ely Diocese on 16.03.23. She has a background in education and sits on the Standards Committee. Sarah has a son in Y1, a daughter in Y5 and two older children who were previously at Barton. She is Link Governor for English, RWE, Art, DT, PSHE and Health and Safety.

Rev. Priscilla Slusar - Foundation Governor (Principal Officiating Minister, Barton)

Rev Priscilla was appointed as Foundation Governor by Ely Diocese on 08.12.23. Rev Priscilla has an extensive background in education, and also regularly volunteers at Barton in Swallow Class and as a minister leading Collective Worship. Rev Priscilla has two grandchildren at Barton in Y2 and Y4 and sits on the Resources Committee. She is Link Governor for Collective Worship, RWE, Gifted and Talented Pupils, Vulnerable Pupils, SEN, LAC and Pupil Premium, and History and Geography.

Mrs. Katie Slusar-Fletcher - Foundation Governor

Katie was appointed as a Foundation Governor by Ely Diocese on 08.12.23. Katie has a strong background in education, and is Assistant Principal and Trust Director of Maths at Comberton Village College. Katie has two children at Barton in Y2 and Y4, and is Link Governor for Maths, ICT/E-Safety and EYFS. She is a member of the Standards Committee.

Mrs. Emma Pilgrim - Foundation Governor

Emma was appointed as Governor by the Local Authority on 27.06.24 and has subsequently transferred to the post of Foundation Governor on 01.10.25. Emma is SEND Director for the Cam Academy Trust and works across a number of local schools, providing strategic leadership and oversight for all aspects of SEND provision. Emma has a son in Reception, a daughter in Y2 and a younger daughter, and is Link Governor for SEND, Pupil Premium, Vulnerable Groups, Gifted and Talented Pupils, English and PE. Emma is a member of the Standards Committee.

Mr. Andrew Higgins - Parent Governor

Andy was elected as Parent Governor on 31.10.22. Andy works in utilities and chairs the Resources Committee. Andy has two daughters in Y4 and Y6, and is Link Governor for Science, Music and Climate/Sustainability issues.

Mrs. Katie Norman - Parent Governor and Co-Chair

Katie was elected as Parent Governor on 15.10.24. Katie has a background working with Cambridgeshire Police and is a member of the Standards Committee. Katie has two sons in Y1 and Y5, and is Link Governor for Child Protection and Safeguarding.

Mrs. Julie Martin - Headteacher

As Headteacher, Mrs Martin is also a Governor and a member of the Resources Committee.

Mrs. Alice Hedges - Staff Governor

Mrs Hedges was elected as Staff Governor on 24.03.23. As well as her role as EYFS Lead and EYFS/Y1 Teacher, she is also the Subject Lead for English and PSHE. 

Mrs. Michelle Michaelides - Local Authority Governor

Michelle was appointed as an Associate Member on 1.10.25 and then as Governor by the Local Authority on 10.12.2025. Michelle has a background in central government and regularly volunteers in Robin class. She has a daughter in Y3 and an older daughter who has just left Barton School and moved up to Comberton Village College. Michelle is a member of the Resources Committee and is a Link Governor for Maths and Music.

Mrs. Amy Goymour - Foundation Governor

Amy was appointed Foundation Governor by Ely Diocese on 10.12.2025.  She is an Associate Professor in Law at Cambridge University, and has particular experience in student pastoral issues and widening participation. Amy has two sons at Barton – one in Reception, and the other in Y2. She is Link Governor for PE and Climate and Sustainability.
