Happy New Year!
As we head into the Spring term, I’m really looking forward to the weeks ahead in Swallow Class. We’ve got a lovely half term planned, with plenty of opportunities to learn, explore and enjoy ourselves together.
This half term we’ll be learning how to keep our bodies healthy in science, travelling back in time to explore the Shang Dynasty in history, and developing our artistic skills through still life in art. In English, we’ll be playing with language through ten-word tales before moving on to longer narrative writing, alongside reading The Firework Maker’s Daughter — a magical story about courage, perseverance and friendship. In maths, we’ll continue building confidence with multiplication and division before moving on to measurement. We are also looking forward to our visit to see Starlight Express before half term!
For full details of what we’ll be studying this half term, please see the Curriculum Overview at the bottom of the page.
PE days this half term will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On these days, children should come to school in their PE kits. This should be a white T-shirt, black or navy shorts or joggers (depending on the weather), and their school sweatshirt or fleece. Our Tuesday lesson will be indoor PE, so children may find it helpful to wear their shorts underneath their jogging bottoms. This means they can stay warm at break and lunchtime, but be comfortable for PE inside! Long hair should be tied back and earrings removed. Please keep non-school uniform sportswear at home for clubs and weekends.
Please make sure your child brings a named water bottle to school each day — learning is thirsty work! They will also need a healthy snack from home. And, to help lost items find their way home, please label everything: uniform, snack pots and water bottles included.
