Kingfisher Y2

Kingfisher Class

Hello everyone and welcome to the final half term of the year. We've had a fantastic year and are going to finish up strong.

Our PE days are remaining Tuesdays and Fridays. Tuesdays are our swimming days so please make sure you have packed a swimming costume, towel, suitable shoes, and an extra snack.

As always remember to check the Home Learning page for this term's home learning projects and invitations, both will be uploaded there. We will do our presentations in the final two weeks of the term. If you have any questions about the projects feel free to email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Our topics for this term

In Maths we are looking back at the skills we have learnt this year in preparation for the end of term. After that we will be looking into the subject of time, including reading analogue and digital clocks, recognising the number of seconds, minutes, and hours in a day, and recognising days of the week.

In English we will be creating a fact file using information learnt in Meerkat Mail, using our previous practice with connecting words, adjectives, and adverbs. We will then move into creating a narrative story based on The Tadpole's Promise making sure we are using our non negotiables and including different sentence types in our writing. We are also going to continue practising our joined up handwriting and using our horizontal and diagonal joins.

Science this term will be focused on what plants need to grow healthily and how seeds and bulbs develop into flowers. We will also look at how different animals, including bees, can help spread and grow plants in our gardens.

This term our RWE will be looking at who Muslims are and what beliefs many Muslims have. We will explore their key beliefs around Allah and the Prophet Muhammed and will be visiting The Cambridge Mosque to understand how many Muslims worship and pray.

Geography will be exploring and creating maps of the world and our schools local area. We will learn about using map markers, road names, and compass directions to navigate our way around a map.

In DT we will be looking at creating healthy meals and safe methods of preparing foods to eat.

Computing will be learning to take clear pictures and continuing our chromebook skills to plan and create stop motion pictures.

Our Music will be practising our singing skills using songs based on different parts of the UK and learning to sing a traditional song all together.

PE will be learning and improving our swimming skills using the school pool and practising our cricket playing including hitting and bowling.

This term our PE days will be on Tuesday and Friday

On Tuesdays children should bring a swimming costume, towel, shoes for walking to the pool, and an extra snack. These should be packed in a separate bag to be kept in the cloakroom. As our cloakroom will be much more crowded please don't bring an extra bag on these days if it is not necessary.

On Fridays children should come into school wearing their PE kits. As a reminder, this should be a white t-shirt, black or navy shorts/joggers (weather dependent), and their school sweatshirt or fleece. Long hair should be tied back, and earrings should be covered or removed. Please do not send your child to school in non-school uniform items on PE days, such as hoodies or other sportswear from clubs.

On the first Wednesday of each month, with the odd exception, we would like to invite parents, carers or any family member dropping off a Kingfisher Class child to come into class before registration and sit alongside them for a few minutes.  'Welcome Wednesday' is an opportunity to share in the children's work, read with them, or simply discuss the current learning summarised on our classroom working walls.  We hope this will become a precious and rewarding 10 minutes for the whole school community to get together regularly in class. We hope to see you there!

Please do look at the General Information page where you will find a summary of this half term's learning, an example timetable and lots of other useful information.
