The school is helping Shepreth Hedgehog Hospital again this year with their hedgehog rehabilitation programme. Sick or injured hedgehogs are nursed back to health by the hospital staff and then released into the countryside. The hedgehogs need time to acclimatise to the sights, smells, sounds of nature and the temperature, which they may have missed since being indoors for rehabilitation.
Some of our children and their families are helping by taking it in turns to visit and feed the five hedgehogs released in Barton. The hedgehogs were placed in secure pens complete with wooden houses and plenty of cover and they need to be fed daily. The pens will be opened soon so the hedgehogs can make their own way into the world unless they have already chosen to hibernate in their houses.
