Welcome to the small, Year 6 Owl Class of 2017-2018. We are a very friendly class with a total of nineteen students. Our lovely teacher Miss McDowell has a lot of fun and exciting activities in store for us. We are very hard-working and are looking forward to the challenges which await us during our final year at Barton Church of England School.
This year in school we are looking forward to applying and developing our skills from last year. In English, we are going to undertake our first unit based on fiction genres. We can’t wait to learn new skills with some Year 5 pupils who will be coming to learn with us in English and Maths during the mornings. In Topic, we are currently learning about Vincent Van Gogh in a fascinating unit and applying our knowledge whilst touch-typing research in ICT with our brand new laptops. In PE, we are taught by Mrs Bryant on Tuesdays and Fridays. We also have other teachers for Spanish and Music (in which we are all learning to play brass and woodwind instruments).
We compete in many sport competitions throughout the year such as football (in which we had the opportunity to play at Cambridge United stadium last year), hockey and netball in which we demonstrate our athletic skills as well as teamwork. As well as this, we have been to Maths and English Challenges across the city to show our fantastic ability in these curriculum areas. For those who enjoy music, there are opportunities to go to Carol Services and the 02 in January.
In Year 6, we hold many roles of responsibility throughout the school and community. At the moment, we are enjoying looking after our new Reception buddies, helping them to settle into our school. This is something we have looked forward to throughout our time at Barton. In addition, we are very proud of our School Council members and know they will represent our class well at the meetings. Some of us are also, House Captains and Year 6 Monitors throughout the school such as lunch monitor, office monitor and librarians. We love helping our school and representing our class.
We are keen to learn more throughout the year and we are looking forward to all the activities and learning this year and later on, when we transition to our secondary schools. We are excited to have the best time in Owl Class in our final year at Barton
